22 Sep Destination Wedding Celebrant in Europe: My Love Affair with Travel
I’ve always believed that travel is one of the few things you can buy that makes you richer.
Not because of the wishlist of places that you tick off a list, but because of what happens when you leave the familiar behind.
You learn how other people live.
You eat things you can’t pronounce.
You get lost and discover somewhere better.
You learn to communicate without always having the right words.
And, somewhere along the way, you collect stories that become part of who you are.
For me, travel has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.
And these days, it has become part of my work too.
From the Gold Coast to Florence
I grew up on the Gold Coast in Australia, in a family where travelling was simply part of life.
By the time I was old enough to appreciate what it meant, I had already become very comfortable with long-haul flights, unfamiliar airports and the slightly chaotic art of packing everything you need into a suitcase.
I spent 14 years living in Sydney, and also had a short stint living in Vancouver in 2004 and a year living in Florence in 2015.
Florence was particularly significant for me.
I moved there to immerse myself in Italian, spending a year studying the language and eventually reaching C1 level.
But it wasn’t just about learning Italian.
Living somewhere completely different taught me how much you learn when you allow yourself to be part of a place rather than simply visit it.
I fell in love with the food, the language, the architecture, the rhythm of everyday life — and, naturally, the aperitivo.
And that love affair with Italy eventually became part of my work.
From 2017, I regularly travelled between Australia and Italy to officiate destination weddings, working with couples who had chosen to legally marry in Australia and then have Italy as the backdrop for their symbolic celebration.
It was the beginning of what would become a much bigger part of my career: combining my love of travel with my love of creating meaningful wedding ceremonies.
From Italy to a European home
In 2018 I turned my attention to Spanish, studying to A2 level as part of my journey towards Spanish citizenship.
As we all know the pandemic interrupted life for a few years and then in 2022, I finally obtained Spanish citizenship through my ancestry.
Suddenly, Europe wasn’t just somewhere I could visit.
It could be home.
I chose Amsterdam as my base, and I’ve been living in the Netherlands since 2023.
It’s a pretty perfect location for someone who loves to travel, with so much of Europe within easy reach.
From Amsterdam, I can head south for an Italian wedding, visit Spain, explore somewhere I’ve never been before, or simply take a few days to experience a new city.
And that freedom has made something very clear to me: I don’t want to choose between my love of travel and my love of weddings.
Luckily, I don’t have to.
When travel, weddings, and events were all taken away at once, I felt a deep void. These are the things that make me feel most alive. For over a decade in Sydney, I was fortunate to weave them together, joyfully officiating more than 350 weddings while also managing large-scale corporate events.
I’ve always believed that life is meant to be celebrated, and not just the big milestones, but the magic in every meaningful moment. Whether it’s a wedding, engagement, or once-in-a-lifetime gathering, my greatest joy lies in creating an atmosphere people will never forget.
Why destination weddings feel so natural to me
I’ve been a wedding celebrant since 2011 and have performed more than 350 ceremonies in Australia and Europe.
Destination weddings have always felt like a natural extension of what I love about my work.
I understand what it feels like to build a life across different places.
I genuinely enjoy working with people from different countries, cultures and backgrounds.
And I understand why a couple might look at a beautiful place on the other side of the world and think:
“This. This is where we want to get married.”
A destination wedding isn’t just a wedding somewhere else.
It’s an experience.
It’s asking the people you love to travel with you.
It’s discovering a place together.
It’s turning a wedding into a weekend, a week or an entire adventure.
And it’s choosing a setting that becomes part of your story.
That’s the part I love.
Your destination. Your people. Your ceremony.
As a destination wedding celebrant in Europe, I travel to wherever your celebration is taking place.
I’ve worked with wedding planners, photographers and videographers across Europe, and my ceremonies have taken me to beautiful destinations including Italy, Greece, Spain and the Netherlands.
I’ve had the privilege of celebrating weddings along the Amalfi Coast, in Tuscany, Venice and Crete.
But the location is only half of the story.
The ceremony still needs to feel like you.
That’s why I don’t believe in pulling a generic wedding script out of a drawer and changing a few names.
Your ceremony should sound like the two of you.
It should capture your relationship, your personalities, your sense of humour, the people who matter to you and the things you’ve experienced together.
Whether you’re planning an intimate European elopement, a relaxed villa wedding in Spain, a romantic Italian destination wedding or a celebration surrounded by friends and family in Greece, the ceremony should belong to you.
The beautiful location sets the scene.
Your story creates the meaning.
An English-speaking celebrant for your European destination wedding
Most of my couples are planning their wedding from somewhere other than the place where they’re getting married.
Which means I understand that planning a wedding overseas can come with a very particular kind of excitement, and a very particular kind of logistical chaos.
You may be working with a venue in Italy, a planner in Spain, a photographer from France and guests flying in from three different countries.
You might never meet your celebrant in person until the day itself.
That’s why I make the ceremony process straightforward.
We begin with a video consultation, get to know each other and talk through what you want your ceremony to feel like.
From there, I work with you remotely to create a completely personalised symbolic wedding ceremony that reflects your relationship and fits naturally into the plans you’ve already made with your venue and wedding team.
Planning a destination wedding in Europe?
If you’re looking for an English-speaking destination wedding celebrant in Europe, I’d love to hear where you’re planning to say “I do”.
I’m based in Amsterdam and available to travel throughout Europe, including Italy, Spain, France, Greece and beyond.
Whether you’ve already chosen your venue or you’re still dreaming about the possibilities, we can start with a conversation about what you’re planning — and what you want your ceremony to feel like.
Because wherever you choose to get married, your ceremony should be every bit as personal as the place you’ve chosen.
